Experiential learning is an integral component of the Animal Science programme. To strengthen practical competencies and expose students to real-world livestock production and animal health systems, students participate in block days and block weeks conducted throughout the academic programme.

These intensive practical sessions are designed to develop specific technical skills through hands-on learning in authentic field settings. In most cases, block weeks are organized in collaboration with agencies and institutions under the Department of Livestock (DoL), Bhutan Livestock Development Corporation Limited (BLDCL), and relevant non-governmental organizations.

During these field-based learning activities, students engage in focused observations, animal handling, clinical examinations, treatment procedures, farm management practices, data recording, and other practical exercises relevant to their coursework. Educational visits are also conducted to livestock farms, research centres, central organizations, processing facilities, and other industry partners to provide students with exposure to diverse livestock systems and professional environments.

Block days and block weeks are carefully planned to complement classroom learning and ensure that students gain meaningful, hands-on experience. These activities help bridge the gap between theory and practice, preparing graduates with the skills, confidence, and professional competencies required for successful careers in the livestock sector.
